Prop Building & DIY
Building our display isn’t just a Halloween hobby — it’s a year-round obsession. We plan our scenes years in advance and often buy props long before we’re ready to use them. Some come from professional creators, others from big box stores, but we’re always hunting for the next creepy-cool addition.
The DIY side of things has been one of our biggest challenges (we’re not exactly tool pros), but learning to build sets and bring our ideas to life has made the process even more rewarding. Every bolt, bracket, and fog-blasted prop has a story — and we’re always working on the next one. Fortunately, we don’t do it alone.
Every October, our family comes to town to help us prepare for the holiday season. It’s a full house, full yard, and full-blown operation. Our dads are the real MVPs — assembling dozens of animatronics, helping with wiring, stabilizing props, and bringing our often-too-big ideas to life. We usually line up the characters in the house while they wait for their moment to shine outside, and it’s not unusual to eat dinner next to a werewolf or killer clown. Everyone pitches in to make the display a memorable experience.
Our imagination often outpaces our skills — but with family, determination, and a few power tools, the magic still happens. Meet the creators of the Haunted Halloween House!
